Have you ever considered cleaning your own swimming pool? I’m sure many of you have and for many reasons.
Some people just want to save some money to pay off some bills or even save up for that vacation you’ve always dreamed of. Think about it, in just 5 years of not paying for someone to come out and clean your pool for you you could have saved between $5,000 and $8,000, depending on where you live.
Other people see the pool guy come in and out of their yard in 5 minutes and think to themselves, “I could do that.” Well, now you can and I’m here to make sure of it, and you do a better job.
That brings me to why. Why would someone who makes a living cleaning pools want to help others learn to clean their own pools? Truth be told I’ve always been a “Do-It-Yourselfer.” Coming from a poor family, if you wanted something to work you had to fix it. So in my heart, I know what it’s like to want to take care of your own stuff so I have a soft spot to train people who want to do things themselves.
But what really broke me was when a single mom came out to me one day while I was cleaning her pool and said to me, while handing me a check for the month, “Can you wait a week to cash this so I can get some money in the bank to cover it?” I was half sad and half mad. Mad because I could clearly see her teenage boy inside the living room playing video games on what was probably a $400 console. That’s when the seed was first planted to figure out a system to help people who wanted to, or needed to, clean their own swimming pools, and make it easy enough to teach the kids to do most of the work. Pay the kid $15 a week and you still come out ahead of paying some pool pro.
The third reason for me to want to teach people how to clean their own pool is so you know that your pool is “Clean, Clean & Safe to Swim In.” What I mean is that you should know if your swimming pool is a safe place to let your kids, family, or friends swim in. Really, even if you don’t want to clean your own pool and you can afford a service company to come out and clean it for you you should really be able to go out and test your own water to see if they are doing a good job. A dirty little secret is that most of the pool pros out there now only know one thing, “Kill Algae.” They learn that to do that you add more chlorine. See more algae, and add more chlorine. They’re not swimming in your pool and they don’t care if your little baby is swimming in water with a chlorine level of 10, but you should. You should not only care but you should be able to test your own water once in a while to see if you’re getting you’re money's worth. “Splash and Dash” just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Let’s not forget that if you learn to clean your own pool and learn what all the equipment is and does then when your pool guy comes up and says that your Canuter Valve is out and it’s going to cost $300 you’ll know that your pool doesn’t have a Canuter Valve.
So I created Happy Pools. The one-month course will teach you not only how to test and treat the water but also what all that equipment does and how to use it. It’s not just some digital course where you watch a few videos and read a couple of blogs. I use the latest technology to walk you through the whole process, I use “AI.” No, not Artificial Intelligence but Actual Intelligence. Yes, I have the videos and the blogs but you will also get a scheduler to set for two days a week where you go out and test the water with your test strips and text me a picture of it, and for the first two weeks I will tell you what to add and how much to add to your pool. In the next two weeks, you tell me what you think you should add and I’ll let you know if you're correct, if not, guess again.
You will also text me a picture of your equipment and I will draw some circles, lines, and arrows on it explaining exactly what you are looking at so you are familiar with your equipment and not just guessing from what you saw on some YouTube videos.
I told you I would hold your hand so we will end the month with a 15-minute face-to-face video call to answer any last questions you might have. You point and I’ll explain. After that, you can join my Facebook group where I will be answering questions and continuing to give tips and tricks.
This leads us both to Elite Pool Care, the cure to a second problem I continually see and feel bad about. I’ve seen so many people through away good, hard-earned money on just plain crappy pool equipment. How many times I’ve shown up to clean a pool to see a new pool cleaner that costs $400 to $500 and is going to break down before you know it? The point is, that I set up a new website with links to all the equipment that I not only recommend but still use after 18 years in the business. From the best nets and poles to pumps and filters that you can count on to last for years. Not to mention a page full of wonderful pool toys the kids will love. “Shop with confidence.”
The website is also continually updated with new blog posts that will always be informative and hopefully a little fun to read.
